Preparing for a spooky time

The bewitching time is nearing when masked figures, some ghastly, will be dominating the community scene asking for treats and threatening with tricks. Once the begging concludes on the evening of Friday, Oct. 31, Estherville youth will be treated to age-appropriate parties during the evening of Saturday, Nov. 1 Greg Langford, president of the Estherville Halloween Association, announced the following schedule: n From 6-8 p.m., children in pre-school-second grade, will be welcomed at the Estherville Fire Hall for games, food and costume contest. n The VFW will be the place for third and fourth graders to congregate from 6-8 p.m. They too will be treated with a costume contest, food and games. n Students in fifth and sixth grade can attend their party at Skateland from 7-9 p.m. Skatinig, games and food will be available. n A dance at the Estherville Lincoln Central Middle School gymnasium is planned for students in seventh and eighth grades from 7-10 p.m.

Fire destroys combine
