SERGEANT BLUFF — Estherville Lincoln Central stayed close to Sergeant Bluff-Luton as the Midgets looked to tie the game on a drive in the fourth quarter. However, a penalty and two sacks pushed ELC back and the host Warriors added an insurance touchdown to win 21-6 on Friday. “They dominated us up front,” said ELC coach jerry Shultz. “The bottom line is we have to play hard. We’re not going to give up on the kids, but it’s up to them to turn it around.” The host Warriors struck first on a run by Paul Saxon in the first quarter. ELC battled back with a little trickery. A halfback pass from Jordan Eggers to Spencer Johnson found gold from 25 yards out. ELC missed the point-after attempt as SB-L held onto a 7-6 lead with 11:19 remaining in the first half. The Midget defense came up with a couple key stops in the first half as Joel Christensen intercepted two passes—the second coming in the end zone late in the first half.
