Water technology company eliminates jobs in Ames
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Officials with Siemens Water Technologies say the company is eliminating is manufacturing operation in Ames and laying off 70 people.
About 100 employees will remain in Ames in other positions including research and development, project engineering, field services and sales.
That's according to Trude Witham, a spokeswoman for the Warrendale, Pa.-based company.
Witham says the decision to eliminate the manufacturing operating was based on lack of opportunities for expansion in Ames.
Some employees could relocate, but Witham says the majority will be given severance packages and job placement assistance.
Siemens Water Technologies provides products, systems and services for water and wastewater treatment to industrial, municipal and commercial customers.
