Gilbert reviewed progress on the project, including both the Demoney addition and the new middle school. In the past few weeks, the precast walls have risen on the southwest side of Maniece, changing the landscape from rough earth a little over a month ago.
Superintendent Dick Magnuson noted that the construction committee meets noon the first and third Tuesday of each month.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Magnuson noted increased food prices due to transportation.
The board approved an asbestos abatement bid for the Maniece building of $68,900 from EPS of Graettinger. Approximately 14,000 square feet of glue containing asbestos needs to be removed and disposed of from the building. Magnuson said the money could come from delaying Roosevelt demolition and using the money instead for the asbestos abatement.
The board approved tech prep and college prep agreements with Iowa Lakes Community College. Magnuson said the agreement helps students get dual credit and ELC High School Principal Frank Christenson said it appears that more students will be taking classes this fall.
