Verl Baker ramrodded the outfit that was forced to trailer the horses part of the way to Sac City due to heavy rains last week.
“We aimed to ride all the way but the thing just didn’t work out,” Baker said. “We thought it would be a lot nicer and would be a good trip but it didn’t cooperate.”
Fourteen people comprised the entourage Saturday. “They just kind of come and go,” Baker said.
It was the first trip for Baker and most of the others.
“We weren’t prepared for what comes with one of these deals,” Baker said. “We came all of 40 miles today.”
Baker said the group traveled mainly on gravel roads and took the highways only when necessary.
Once the group gets to Sherburn, Baker said he’ll go back to Clarinda to pick up a few more horses for the trail.
He’ll bring those by trailer, of course.
