By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer
POSTED: April 30, 2009

Roll up your bobby socks and comb your DA for the first Black Knights Car Club cruise-in of the season this Friday in Library Square.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Black Knights will park their cars along North Sixth Street just west of the Estherville Public Library. The group will then tour Estherville at about 7 p.m., making pit stops at the Estherville Good Samaritan Center and Rosewood Manor before returning to North Sixth Street.

The Black Knights will also participate in two benefits on May 3. One will be for Bob Hecht at Dunnell from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dunnell Community Hall in Dunnell, Minn.

Bob is recovering at home from an auto accident in 2008. Supplemental funds will be provided by Thrivent. The Dunnell-Lake Fremont Fire Department will award two trophies during the Black Knights Car Show.

Another Sunday event is a fundraiser for the Mitchell family of Armstrong that lost its home and all belongings in a house fire Tuesday, April 14. Bill works for the Iowa Department of Transportation out of the Kossuth office and Stacie works for Bank Midwest of Armstrong. They have two girls, Brittney and Bailey.

The fundraiser begins with a freewill donation breakfast at the Armstrong Community Center at 519 Sixth St. from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. A silent auction will be held all day, concluding at 6 p.m. The display for the live auction will be held at the Armstrong Community Center during the poker run with the live auction starting at 6 p.m. at Dales Recreation at 607 Sixth St. in Armstrong.

Registration for the poker run will be held at Dales Recreation at noon with the ride starting at 1 p.m. Registration is $10 a person which includes a meal of pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, chips, salads and bars after the ride.

The poker run will stop at the Main Street Pub in Bancroft, the North Star Lounge in Fenton, The Pub in Wallingford, Soft Tail Saloon in Superior and the Channel Inn in Fairmont. The poker run will end at Dales Recreation for dinner and the auction. A prize will be awarded for best poker hand drawn.

There will also be live music at Dales Recreation at the end of the run.

For more questions on the Mitchell benefit or poker run, call John or Ruthanne at 712-868-3021 or 712-260-5732.
