The upgrades at Lincoln Park-the former site of Lincoln Elementary-could start yet this fall.

On Monday, the Estherville Parks and Recreation Board discussed the first step-the installation of a fence along Highway 4 which will separate the main area from the northeast portion of the L-shaped area.

Excel! Estherville has a $15,000 line item for the fencing. Through a company in Fort Dodge, Midwest Fence and Gates, parks and recreation director Dave Spurgin said the project can be done for $11,986.

"We'll have a decorative fence at least along the highway," he said.

Currently there is a chain-link fence separating the area from nearby houses on the northwest side. That fencing may also be replaced.

Spurgin said he'd like to get the fence installed later this fall.

The Parks and Recreation Board's five-year comprehensive parks plan calls for the installation of a 46-by-61 foot playground in Lincoln Park which will be usable by children with and without special needs.

In other business Monday, the board discussed a possible extension of its trail in the South 15th Street Park that would extend from Sixth Avenue South to Second Avenue South.

Spurgin said Excel! Estherville is looking at a possible concrete trail, but the project is currently on hold.
