Items sought for Community Christmas Project

Gifts accepted at EAMA churches

POSTED: October 31, 2009

Estherville area churches are now accepting gift donations for the 2009 Community Christmas Project.

Last November, the Estherville Area Ministerial Association reached 268 needy households throughout Emmet County with gifts through the project. More than half of the 824 individuals who received gifts were children.

The Community Christmas Project relies on donations from business, service organizations, individuals and churches. Gifts are being accepted at any of the EAMA churches through Nov. 29.

Warm clothing, such as sweat shirts and pants, pajamas, shirts, socks, mittens and caps in all sizes for men, women and children are needed. Other gift suggestions include pillows, blankets, towels, toys, games, books and dolls.

Only new items will be accepted and donations should not be gift wrapped.

Anyone wishing to send a gift of money, which will be used to purchase gifts, can make the check payable to the Community Christmas Project and mail to: Community Christmas Project, PO Box 383, Estherville, IA 51334. Money received is used to purchase gift items for the project. All donations remain in Emmet County.

Emmet County residents who are clients of the Department of Human Service or Upper Des Moines Opportunity may choose to participate, but they must request a Community Christmas Project coupon from the Upper Des Moines Opportunity office. This coupon must be presented when gifts are selected.

Emmet County residents who are not clients of the DHS or UDMO, but are recommended by clergy of the EAMA may also qualify o participate and must secure a coupon from the clergy recommending them. The distribution will be held in the Duhigg Center, 902 Central Ave. in Estherville on Tuesday, Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Community Christmas Project is sponsored by the EAMA with assistance from DHS and UDMO. However, the success of the project is credited to many generous people who give a donation and the many ambassadors from the churches that volunteer their time and energy.

Together, they hope to once again provide a happy Christmas for those in need.
