Kay Hennick Joy
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. - A Mass of Christian Burial for Kay Hennick Joy, 66, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., will be held 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Sacred heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Deacon Larry Lipsmeyer and Monsignor Bernard G. Malone officiating.
She died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, following complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
She was born July 13, 1943, in Oakland, Calif., to the late John Hennick and Ina Anderson Hennick. The family soon moved to Estherville. Kay met her husband Gary as a sophomore in high school. They married five years later and would have celebrated their 45th anniversary on Nov. 28. Kay was a graduate of Bethesda School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minn., and worked as an LPN as well as an office administrator for several healthcare facilities. Upon their retirement in 2000, they moved to Hot Springs Village, Ark. Kay's passions included playing duplicate bridge and tennis. She cherished the many friendships made through these groups, along with other social activities. Kay was an extrovert who lived life to the fullest. She loved making new acquaintances and was never at a loss for words; at the same time, she always conveyed to others a sense of caring and genuineness. Kay's many "best friends" from each of the eight communities where she and Gary lived is a testimony to her loving spirit.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ina (Anderson) Hennick; one brother, Virgil Hennick; brother-in-law, Buster Barnes and a son, Michael Joy. She is survived by her husband, Gary Joy of Hot Springs Village; son, Mark Joy of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Larry Hennick of Thailand and a sister, Eloise Barnes of Bakersfield, Calif.
Kay was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
