SLP wrestlers busy in first week

HARTLEY, MILFORD - The Spirit Lake Park wrestling team lost both matches of a double dual at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Thursday.
It dropped the first match against HMS by a score of 54-30 and fell to Sheldon 48-30.
Against Class 1A No. 6 ranked HMS, Scott Hummel was the lone wrestler to earn a victory for SLP, pinning Alec Ahman in just 52 seconds.
Spirit Lake Park fared better against Sheldon as Rick Maris, Brandon Griffin, Rick Wilson and Shae Heinrichs all earned wins for the Indians.
Marris pinned Matt Williams in 1 minute, 4 seconds in the 145 pound match up.
At 152 pounds, Griffin pinned Knute Klinker in 1:04.
Rick Wilson won by fall over Tim Jenness in 1:04 at 171 pounds and Shae Heinrichs picked up a victory at heavyweight, pinning Jim Feekes in just 53 seconds.
Spirit Lake Park then traveled to Milford on Saturday to take part in the Okoboji Invite.
The Indians had seven wrestlers place in their respective weight classes.
Doug Miner was the lone champion for SLP in the 103-pound bracket.
Rick Wilson placed second at 171, Rick Maris placed third at 145, Ty Ahrenstorff placed fourth at 189, Shae Heinrichs also placed fourth at heavyweight, Dylan Bryce placed fifth at 130 and Adam Dreezen placed sixth at 215.
