Velva Jean Polzin

RINGSTED - A memorial gathering was held from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, for Velva Jean Polzin, 83, of Ringsted, at First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted. Interment was at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Velva Jean Polzin died on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville. Velva Jean was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minn. to the late Robert and Margaret (Ludeman) Fisk.

She was baptized and later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Jeffers, Minn. She received her education in Jeffers, Minn., graduating in the class of 1944. Velva Jean continued to live at home and worked as a school secretary until the time of her marriage to Lester Polzin on April 12, 1946. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Jeffers area for 15 years before moving to Huron, S.D. where they did order buying of feeder cattle. The family moved to Ringsted in 1961 where they owned and operated a truck line and did order buying until retirement in 1989. Lester passed away on Sept. 27, 1991. Velva Jean continued to live on the farm for another year and then moved into Ringsted.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Velva Jean is survived by three sons, Ronald Polzin and his wife, Melissa of Rapids, Wis.; Alan Polzin and his wife, Jewell of Laramie, Wyo.; and Steven Polzin and his friend, Deb of Oxford, Wis.; one daughter, Susan Quinn of Armstrong; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, B. Dean Fisk of Roberts, Wis.; Glenn Fisk of Royalton, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Marge (Robert) Prins of Storden, Minn.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Scott Michael Polzin.
