ELC struggles at Spencer

SPENCER - Estherville Lincoln Central struggled mightily at the Spencer Invitational on Saturday. The Midgets finished last out of 10 teams in the tournament.
Gable Bonner went 1-1 at the meet and finished in third place with just four wrestlers in the 215-pound class. Bonner lost his first match of the tournament to Spencer's Kris Rhode by a 5-1 decision. Bonner was set to wrestle Dan Hamsen of Boyden-Hull-Rock Valley before Hamsen was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Riley Edwards went 2-2 in the tournament to take fifth place. Edwards opened by losing to Travis Mallo of Mason City by fall in 1 minute, 16 seconds before defeating Chris Hiserole of LeMars by fall in 4:40. He then fell to Levi Kellog of Clear Lake by major decision and was placed in the fifth place match with Daniel Hoogendoom from BHRV. Edwards rebounded by beating Hoogendoom by a 13-3 major decion in the match.
Seth Shatto also placed fifth for ELC, at 152 pounds.
In JV action, Lee Bates won the 152-pound bracket by going 3-0 in the meet. At 215, Cole Mace took second place by going 2-1 and Evan Howing finished in fourth place at 160.
