Supervisors vote Smith as new chair
By Michael Tidemann - Staff WriterThe Emmet County Board of Supervisors in its first meeting of the new year Monday voted to put Ron Smith in the chairman's seat for the coming year. Smith replaces Randy Beaver who served previously as chair.
Approved as vice-chair was Jim Jenson.
The board also designated Smith as the board's representative to the Upper Des Moines Opportunity Inc. Board of Directors with supervisor Bev Juhl approved as alternate.
A vacancy remains on the Committee to Assess Damages for 2009. The board is seeking a person in the real estate profession from the Armstrong or Ringsted area to fill the slot. Anyone interested in serving on the committee may call the Emmet County auditor's office at 362-4261.
The board appointed Jenson to the Northwest Iowa Housing Trust Fund Board of Directors. The board also approved a resolution to again adopt the IDNR matrix for 2010.
In the road report, county engineer Roger Patocka said he is accounting for hours from Dec. 22 until the end of 2009. The figures will be compiled with other counties statewide to determine whether a disaster declaration can be made for last month's storm. Patocka said if a $4 million additional cost can be proven statewide the state would qualify for a disaster declaration.
The board also agreed to have Patocka compile a list of on-call personnel for snow removal.
