Reloading powder funnels made by Satern Custom Machining of Estherville are featured in the February issue of Guns Magazine.
Jacob Gottfredson wrote the article which describes the advantages of the funnels over the more common plastic funnels.
"Then one day a company called Satern Custom Machining sent me a couple of metal funnels they manufacture. These are nicely crafted funnels, made for exact calibers to prevent spill between the funnel mouth and the case. The bottom of the funnel is made of brass and the top from aluminum. That finally ended my problem with powder sticking to the funnel," Gottfredson write.
"I am now a happy camper, or I should say handloader again."
Deb Satern, partner in the business with her husband, Steve, said they sent the funnels to Gottfredson when he was writing for Handloader Magazine a year ago.
"It just shows that the seeds you sow today can spread in other places," Deb observed.
Satern sells the funnels to retailers as well as directly to the public. They range from .17 to .50 caliber and priced between $10.25 and $17.
"We have people who actually collect them like trading cards," Deb mused.
Satern is probably best known for its custom cut rifle barrels which have wide-ranging popularity with a variety of collectors and shooters.
The Saterns have been busy over the past month attending various events as well. They recently attended the Army marksmanship Unit Military Ball at Ft. Benning, Ga., to which they received a personal invitation.
They also attended a convention in Las Vegas.
"It was a good trip for us," Deb said of the Vegas trip. "It's always very busy."
Deb said they made appointments before the trip.
"It's nice to do those face-to-face," Deb said. "You follow up with people you meet several years ago."
In addition to Steve and Deb, Satern Custom Machining has five employees.
