ELC student killed in crash

GRAETTINGER - An Estherville Lincoln Central High School senior was killed Thursday morning when the vehicle she was driving collided with a semi south of Graettinger on Highway 4.

According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, Deborah Jean Weideman, 18, of Estherville was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala when she lost control of her vehicle and crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Peterbilt pulling a grain trailer driven by Todd Curtis Travis, 45, of Mallard at about 7:32 a.m. Weideman was taken by Emmestburg Ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Travis was also taken to Palo Alto County Hospital by personal vehicle. The accident occurred four miles north of the junction of Highways 18 and 4.

The Estherville Lincoln Central School District asks parents to contact high-school administrators, school nurse or guidance counselors with any concern regarding their child about this tragedy. Members of the school crisis team will be available before, after and during school hours to assist any current or past student in dealing with this tragic loss.
