While staying with a $3.85 general basic levy, the 2010-2011 budget approved by the Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday has will have an increase in tax askings of $186,280.
The total tax askings for fiscal 2010-2011 will be $4,233,996. That compares to $3,744,035 for the current year, or an increase of $489,961 or just over 13 percent.
Total levies will increase to 10.816685 from 10.78496, or an increase of .296 percent.

The reason for the difference between the general basic tax rate of 3.85 and the maximum basic tax rate of 3.50 is that valuations have not yet recovered form the large state-ordered decrease in valuations several years ago.
Emmet County is by no means the only Iowa County above 3.50 for a general basic levy. There are 23 counties over the 3.50 levy. Counties with a levy of 5.0 and over include Davis, 5.1; Lucas, 5.0; and Van Buren, 5.12.
The budget also includes general supplemental askings of $798,597, an increase of $87,448. Mental health has tax askings of $807,474, an increase of $100,968.
Public health has $143,000 budgeted for fiscal 2011 as well as the current year. The conservation budget will also remain the same as the current year, at $135,000.
The rural services levy of 3.33 for fiscal 2011 is the same as for the current year and will generate another $115,265. Three deputies are included under rural services.
