Mental health survey receives high marks

March 11, 2010
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer

The Emmet County Department of Mental Health Case Management received high parks from providers, guardians and consumers in its last survey.

The yearly survey asks all impacted parties to comment in four to six areas. Dorothy Christensen, county mental health coordinator, presented the findings to the Emmet County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

Thirteen out of 14 providers said case management staff helped and served as an advocate for the consumer all the time with one saying that happened most of the time.

Twelve out of 14 providers thought they were a valued part of the interdisciplinary team and all thought case managers responded to calls in a timely manner.

Most guardians and families rated services highly as well. Five out of six said the case manager treated them as an important part of the team, communicated openly and was a strong family advocate. There were concerns, though, about government budget cuts.

Fifteen out of 16 consumers said the case manager treated them with respect and helped them get services. Ten out of 16 said there were no other things the case manger could help them with.
