Local groups help youth with school supplies

August 18, 2010

Local organizations have stepped forward in a big way to donate school supplies to Estherville schools.

On Tuesday, Rev. Don Rehmer and Jim Doyle of Estherville Lutheran Church donated $500 to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. for school supplies. Doyle said the money was raised by a once-monthly freewill offering, "The Good Samaritan Fund". Another $500 is going to help build wells in Tanzania. Accepting the gift was Dawn Peta, UDMO program assistant, and Cinda Joynt, UDMO outreach director.

Also on Tuesday, Estherville Medical Clinic and Avera Holy Family Hospital employees donated a van load of school supplies. Demoney Elementary Principal Kris Schlievert and Lizbeth Ramos, also from ELC, gratefully accepted the supplies. Employees presenting the donation were Donna Jean Tindall, Janet Wheatley, Kim Steffes and Wendi Behrends.

School supplies are always welcome at any of our area schools. School supplies or cash donations may also be brought to UDMO at the Emmet County Annex building.
