OKOBOJI - The Spirit Lake volleyball team opened 2010 with a perfect record as the Indians cruised to 3-0 start at the Okoboji Tournament on Tuesday.
The Indians defeated Harris-Lake Park 21-12, 21-9 before fighting off Graettinger/Terril in game one 21-17 and winning game two 21-8.
Against Okoboji, the Indians lost game one 21-12 before coming back to clinch two straight games 21-16 and 15-13.
"This was a great start to our season," said Spirit Lake coach Rachel Berkland. "We didn't go to any scrimmages in the preseason so this was the first time we could see how we would do against another team. We still have things that we need to work on but the effort the girls put on the court is what they do everyday in practice. I'm proud that their hard work paid off."
Alexa Rodawig led the Indians in kills with 10 and Holly Seemann followed with nine.
Kendra Stokke led with 18 digs while Allissa Christopher added 17 and Amanda Bueltel had 10.
Whitney Berkland was 25-of-27 serving with eight aces in the tournament, she also led the Indians with 19 assists while Paige Krause added 10 of her own.
The Indians will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 7, as they travel to face Sibley-Ocheyedan.
