To the EDN:
As the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us, my family and I would like to give thanks to those who have made such a difference in our lives this past year.
Late summer 2010, I began my second journey with cancer. At that time, my amazing co-workers at Avera Holy Family Health created a Facebook page called "Cindi's Gang". This not only drew attention to melanoma, but became a tremendous support system with over 1400 members today. Those same co-workers hosted bake sales, a food drive for the holidays, sold bracelets and shirts, and hosted a 5K in which many businesses donated toward. Employees of our hospital and clinic also not only covered my hours at work, they donated their vacation time in order for me to receive pay. There were a multitude of cards, gifts and acts of generosity from those of our community.
Words can never express the difference this has made for our family. It has been a humbling and scary time for us, yet we have never seen such an outpouring of love, generosity and support. We are so grateful to live and work in such a caring community!
With heartfelt thanks from our family,
Steve and Cindi Loring
