Lakers finish fifth at national tourney

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wisc. - After entering the 2010 NJCAA?National Volleyball Tournament as a number one seed, the Iowa Lakes Lakers took a fifth place finish after going 3-1 in tournament play.

The Lakers opened with a 3-0 victory over Genesee Community College on Thursday by scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-12.

Unfortunately the Lakers fell in their very next match to Pasco-Hernando Community College 3-1, dropping Iowa Lakes into the loser's bracket.

The Lakers responded by defeating Region XI foe Kirkwood in three straight on Friday. Winning by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-11 to advance to the fifth place match against No. 6 rated Kishwaukee College on Monday.

The Lakers opened by winning the first two games, 25-21, 25-23, but fell in the following two, 25-14, 25-16, to force a fifth and final set.

With their backs against the ropes the Lakers fought back to take the set, 15-8, earning a fifth place finish in their fifth national tourney appearance in the last six season.

The Lakers were led by Xiao Liang with 57 kills in the tournament.

Kellisha Harley led with 135 assists while Cayla Vimr led with 10 ace serves.

Le Mi finished with 37 kills and led with 58 digs and six blocks.
