ADEL - The Spirit Lake girls' golf team didn't perform its best in the first day of the Class 3A State Tournament on Tuesday.

The Indians were in sixth place after shooting a 394, one of their higher scores in the last few weeks.

Charles City led the field with a 350 followed by Clear Lake with a 368, Dubuque Wahlert with a 373, ADM with a 385, MOC-Floyd Valley with a 390, Grinnell with a 395 and Atlantic with a 404.

Charles City's Jessie Sindlinger led the field with a four-under-par 68. Ballard's Susan Kirschenman was shot par for the course, 72.

Maureen Owens led Spirit Lake with a 92, which tied her for 13th overall. Emily Ayres finished with a 97 followed by Leah Hilpipre with a 101 and Whitney Berkland with a 104.

Non-counting scores were a 112 by Hannah Weidemeier and a 125 by Amanda Williams.

The Indians will try to improve their standing in the second round of competition today at the River Valley Golf Club in Adel.
