WALLINGFORD - Wallingford will celebrate its centennial Aug. 9-11, 2013, and a group of area residents has met to start planning the celebration.
"It will take a lot of volunteers and planning to host the three-day event, but we feel we are off to a great start," said Kris Fay, of the fundraising committee which was organized in July and has already raised over $1,500 for the event.
"Our first fundraising effort has been the collection of pop cans. We have been surprised by how quickly the money from the recycled cans has added up. We have set up a site in Wallingford for the can collection and that fundraiser will be ongoing."
The fundraising committee will also host a holiday bake sale 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Estherville Pizza Hut.
For more information about the bake sale or the date of the next planning meeting, call Wallingford City Hall at 867-4585 or Kris Fay at 867-4534.
