ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Lester L. Mortimore, 76, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor David Christenson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

He died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Lester Leon Mortimore, the son of Warren B. and Lillian Marie (Messinger) Mortimore, was born June 15, 1935, in Estherville.

He received his education in the Estherville schools.

On May 31, 1956, he was united in marriage to Adoline Rosenau in Fairmont, Minn. Les worked at John Morrell and Company for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He also worked many years helping his brother, Shorty, at the family owned Mortimore's Grocery Store. Les enjoyed spending time with family at backyard picnics; fishing; family vacations to cabin near Hackensack, Minn. and hunting with his sons and son-in-law, Dennis. Les was an avid morel mushroom hunter, never revealing his secret spots and was very proud of his carved diamond willow walking sticks. He loved the outdoors, nature and pulling pranks with everyone, especially his sisters. Les also had a large swan collection, that started with a special swan figurine of his mother's.

Left to cherish Les's memory is his wife, Adoline; children, Les Mortimore, Jr. and friend, Laura; Jeff Mortimore and his wife, Diana; Cindy Rohrbaugh and her husband, Dennis; Lori Johnson and Randy Hodson; nine grandchildren, Maranda, Sara, Lindsey, Andrea, Jenny, Tessa, Megan, Danny and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Rayna, Lincoln, Isaac, Ezra and Myla and sisters, Wilma Matthes, Barbara Molacek and Nadine Vigdal and her husband, Dave.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warren "Shorty" Mortimore and brother-in-law, Steve Molacek.
