Neighborhood Artist Review reception a great idea

February 9, 2012
Estherville Daily News

Estherville area residents will have the chance to see a retrospective of artists exhibiting in last year's Neighborhood Artist Review at the Estherville Public Library 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. The exhibit is sponsored by the Excel! Estherville Arts and Culture Committee.

Featured artists include Moriah Hawn, Jill Clark, Marvel Houge and Alan Gage who all exhibited at NorthStar Bank and Little Swan Lake Winery in 2011.

This is a great opportunity to see these artists' work. Another great opportunity is to see work by a new group of artists that will be exhibiting in 2012.

Steve Danielson, Arts and Culture Committee chair, said he's had a lot of positive comments about artists' work - including comments that people didn't realize there was such a large number of high-caliber artists in our community. Danielson gives credit to both the Arts and Culture Committee's efforts as well as the Estherville Art Center's storefront art project in heightening awareness and interest in area artists. He also gives a lot of credit to NorthStar Bank and Little Swan Lake Winery for providing venues for local artists.

Both the Feb. 23 event as well as NAR exhibitions throughout the year are must-see, must-do events. There's something for everyone, and these shows are a great way to meet some local artists and to see their work.

Area artists are also encouraged to submit their work for the Neighborhood Artist Review. Just leave contact information and a sample of your work or a photo of larger pieces at the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce office at 620 First. Ave. S. in Estherville.

So whether you're an artist - or like to view art - make sure you attend one of these great events.
