Minnie V. Edwards

ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Minnie V. Edwards, 95, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.

She died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Minnie Viola (Wiebel) Edwards, the daughter of Christofer Henry and Kathryn (Symens) Wiebel, was born April 28, 1916, in Lennox, S.D. Kathryn died when her three children were very young and the children were then raised by an aunt and uncle, Abbie and Albert Ertmoed.

Minnie attended country schools at Lennox. After that she worked as a maid and a nanny for a family in Sioux Falls. S.D. While working for them she spent summers at Lake Okoboji and it was there at the Roof Garden that she met her future husband, Marvin Edwards.

They were married on Nov. 18, 1942 at Canton Methodist Church Parsonage in Canton, S.D. by Rev. Wendell Johnson, one day before Marvin was sent overseas.

While her husband served in World War II, Minnie lived in Glendale, Calif. with her sister-in-law, Alyce Elwood. For three years she worked for southern California airports and Lockheed, joining thousands of other women at the time as "Rosie the Riveters".

Following Marvin's return, they lived briefly in South Dakota before moving to Estherville, Marvin's hometown.

They owned, and operated together, Estherville Mattress Works.

In 1970, they moved to Mesa, Ariz. where Minnie worked for Motorola.

In retirement, they lived in Arizona and South Dakota before moving back to Estherville in 1992. Minnie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Minnie's memory are her children, Kathryn Iverson and her husband, Stephen, of Lake Mills, Jim Edwards and his wife, Suzanne, of Redwood Falls, Minn. and Bruce Edwards of Phoenix; five grandchildren, Marc Bartels, wife, Emily, and children, Levi and Cale of Berthoud, Colo., Jessica Brandt, husband, Kevin, and children, Hayden and Harper of Vienna, Vir., Deidre Edwards of Dallas, Nathan Edwards, wife, Michelle, and children, Tyler and Shelby of El Paso, Texas, Lissa Edwards of Mesa, Ariz. and brother, Donald Wiebel, and his wife, Evelyn, of Hanover Park, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Doris Jensen of Spirit Lake and Alyce Elwood of Simi Valley, Calif. and special nieces and nephews.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband; step-mother, Lettie Wiebel; sister, Engeline Grayson; brother, Lawrence Wiebel and son-in-law, Daryl Bartels. Online condolences may be sent to www.henryolsonfuneral.com
