Respite Angels fundraiser set for March 24

March 15, 2012
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

A soup lunch fundraiser will be held for Respite Angels, a group of volunteers who provide respite care for those caring for loved ones suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's, Saturday, March 24 at the Estherville Masonic Lodge.

Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a soup, bar and drink for just $5. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction.

A special feature of the fundraiser is that Kayla Rossiter of Anytime Fitness is giving away free passes. For everyone who gets a free pass and signs up for a membership, Anytime Fitness will donate $100 to Respite Angels.

"Their mission is to take care of yourself and you can take care of others better," said Rossiter. "Physical health can help with mental health. Their organization is just great."

Area Girl Scouts will be pitching in to help as well.

According to Kelly Schultz, Respite Angels director, the volunteer organization serves people in Emmet, Dickinson and Clay counties.

Next Wednesday at 6 p.m. Respite Angels is sponsoring the first meeting of a caregiver support group at Keelson Harbour Assisted Living Community of Spirit Lake.

"This is going to be on how to take care of yourself as a caregiver," said Schultz.

Caregivers from anywhere are welcome to attend.
