ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Esther Bartels, 97, of Estherville will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Paul Weigman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church only on Monday. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Esther Marie (Minkel) Bartels, the daughter of Oscar and Libby (Anderlik) Minkel, was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Davis Corners.
She received her education in the local schools and graduated from Sumner High School. After completing high school she obtained her teaching certificate.
On June 11, 1936, Esther was united in marriage to John Bartels at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner. Esther taught country school in Sumner for six years. Later Esther and John moved to Estherville to make their home. She was employed at Super Valu until her retirement. John died in 1997. In her leisure time Esther enjoyed bowling, quilting, crocheting and woodworking with John.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville where she was active in the church circles. Esther also worked on the local elections boards for 10 years.
Grateful for having shared Esther's life are her daughter, Vicki Schultz, and her husband, Tom, of White Bear Lake, Minn.; son, Allan Bartels, and his wife, Dorothy, of Sycamore, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Iverson, and her husband, Stephen, of Lake Mills; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding Esther in death were her husband; son, Daryl; parents and two brothers.
