SPENCER - Funeral services for Bruce Gerald Gifford, Jr., 81, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 9 at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer with Pastor Russell Muilenburg officiating. Interment will be at North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 8, starting at 6 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Bruce Gerald Gifford, Jr., the son of Bruce and Helen (Nelson) Gifford, Sr. was born April 19, 1931 in Clay County. His childhood years were spent in Lake Center Schools, graduating from Lake Center High School in 1949.

Bruce married Shirley Inman on Dec. 6, 1961, in Jackson, Minn. Following their marriage, they resided in Spencer where they raised a family of six children. He worked as a truck driver for Allied Van Lines and then for Jones Transfer and later as a construction worker for Stevenson Construction. His last years of work were at Eaton's Corporation as a security guard in their offices in Michigan, Minnesota and Spencer, where he retired in 1993. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. He was also an active member of the Spencer Community serving as a volunteer tax preparer, taught 55 Alive, was a volunteer for NW Aging, RSVP and AARP Vocational Team. He was awarded the Community Service Award for Modern Woodman in 1997 and in 1998, was voted Spencer Citizen of The Year.
Bruce passed away at Northshire Residence on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Gifford; one sister, Myrtle Shimko and a son-in-law, Scott Martin.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Gifford of Spencer; his five remaining children: Jeri Martin of Stanwood, Wash., Becky (Leland) Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; Michael (Roxanne) Gifford of Miller, Mo, Laurie Gifford of Spencer and Carole (David) Feldhacker of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Flack of Iowa City; other relatives and many friends.
