Oscar Omundson was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Estherville, the son of Joseph and Matilda (Christiansen) Omundson.
Following his education, Oscar served in World War II with the United States Army in the Alaskan Defense Command. After returning home he met and married Beverly Cole of Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1945. The couple farmed in Palo Alto and Humboldt counties until 1952. They moved to Estherville, where Oscar went to work for the Estherville school system for several years, and later for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Estherville and then in Sioux City, Iowa until retiring in 1983.
In 1989, Oscar and Beverly moved back to Estherville from Sioux City and lived there until 2011. Oscar spent the past year in Nampa, Idaho to be near his family. He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Post 3388 in Estherville.
On May 15, 2012, Oscar passed away at his home in Nampa, Idaho at the age of 90.
Left to cherish Oscar's memory are his seven children: Linda Voster (Dean) of Mondamin, Gene Omundson (Jenny) of Denison, Texas, Michael Omundson (Cheryl) of Bondurant, Rodney Omundson (Mary) of Denison, Texas., Kenneth Omundson (Terri) of Melba, Idaho., Vickie Howard (Ron) of Altoona, and Brian Omundson; a sister, Becky Peterson of Zimmerman, Minn.; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Estherville Lutheran Church. Burial is in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at the Estherville Lutheran Church.
