In spite of some extra hitting practice prior to Monday's games, Estherville Lincoln Central had just three hits in an 11-1 loss to Emmetsburg on Monday.
ELC coach Lee Evans took some of the blame for the loss.
"We had chances early and I ran us out of a couple runs," he said. "I'll take the blame for that. If we could've played from ahead, it might have been a different game."
In the first inning, Evans sent Gable Bonner home when the E'Hawks began throwing the ball around. But Emmetsburg made the play at the plate.
Billy Snyder got the start on the mound for the Midgets and took the loss. Snyder had two strikeouts and two walks. Tucker Milburn closed out the game.
Defensively, ELC had three errors on the night.
ELC's three hits came from Evan Hansen, Tyler Swanson and Milburn.
"Their kid kept us off balance," said coach Evans.
ELC (4-9 overall) hosts LeMars on Wednesday.
In junior varsity play, ELC lost 7-1. Riley Strenge pitched two innings and gave up three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Tim Greving pitched four innings and gave up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
