Top-ranked North Union remains perfect

Class 2A No. 1 North Union continues to keep winning.

The Warriors notched three victories at the Algona Tournament on Saturday to improve to 16-0 on the season.

North Union defeated Garner-Hayfield 12-1 in six innings, Van Meter 5-3 and Prairie Valley 10-0 in six innings.

Against Garner-Hayfield, Peyton Oleson picked up the victory on the mound. She gave up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts.

North Union's bats took a while to heat up, but the Warriors plated five runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. They ended the game with nine hits.

Tori Johnson and Collete Haag each went 2-4. Haag had and home run and two RBIs. Allie Ingalls was 1-4 with a double and three RBIs. Harley Lindell was 1-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Cheyanne Boland was 1-3 with two RBIs and Sara Johnson and Jasmine Clausen each went 1-3. Also Dena Looft had two RBIs.

Against seventh-ranked Van Meter, North Union was held to five runs, its lowest score, for the second time this season. The game was tied 1-1 when the Warriors outscored Van Meter 4-2 in the sixth inning.

Ingalls earned the win giving up three runs (none earned) on four hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

North Union had six hits. Ingalls was 3-4 with a double. Haag and Sara Johnson each went 1-3 and Haag had a home run and two RBIs. Tori Johnson was 1-4 with an RBI.

Haag earned the victory against Prairie Valley. She gave up five hits with no walks or strikeouts.

North Union finished with 10 hits. Tori Johnson was 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Boland was 2-4 with two RBIs. Haag was 2-4 with a double, a triple and one RBI. Clausen was 1-2 with a double and two RBIs. Ingalls was 1-2 while Lindell was 1-3 with an RBI and Looft was 1-4 with an RBI.
