North Union edges past Spalding

Warriors score walkoff run in 10th inning

BANCROFT - North Union eked out a 2-1 victory with a walk-off run in the 10th inning against Spalding Catholic on Friday.

In a classic pitchers' duel, Spalding's Michael Grading limited North Union to one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks in nine innings.

Sawyer Doocy started for the Warriors. In eight innings, he gave up one earned run on one hit with 15 strikeouts and three walks. Brett Thackery pitched the final two innings. He struck out one batter and walked one as he picked up the win.

Doocy had both RBIs, but didn't have a hit.

Thackery was 1-4 while Alex Deitering and Zach Hurlburt each went 1-3.

Brett Deitering and Jake Adams scored the runs for North Union.

Spalding committed four errors in the game while North Union had none.

The Warriors left 10 batters stranded compared to five by the visitors.

North Union (14-3) hosts Okoboji this evening.
