LAKE PARK - Another night, another victory for the Estherville Lincoln Central Baseball Team.

On Thursday, the Midgets and starter Joe Clayton won a pitcher's duel as ELC left Lake Park with a 3-0 victory.

Clayton gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out eight batters on the night.

"I think the play that changes the momentum was Derek Nieland throwing out a guy at home plate from center field in the second inning," said ELC coach Lee Evans. "Joe kept throwing up zeros and we finally gave him some run support."

The Midgets scored in the top of the fifth inning. Evan Hansen was hit by a pitch and courtesy runner Alec Wycoff went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Swanson.

With two outs, Tucker Milburn hit a hard grounder to the shortstop that the Wolves' mishandled. That allowed Wycoff to score.

ELC added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Hansen again led things off, this time with a walk. Wycoff again came in to run for Hansen and went to second on a passed ball and to third on a balk.

With two outs, Milburn drew a walk.

This time, Gable Bonner hit a ball that hit the bottom of the fence. Two runs were able to score on the play.

"Our small ball game was better tonight," said Evans. "We're starting to come together."

At the plate, Snyder was 2-4 with a stolen base and Boner was 2-4 with two RBIs.

ELC (10-10 overall, 4-4 in the Lakes Conference) hosts Storm Lake this evening.

The Estherville Lincoln Central Junior Varsity Baseball Team won 11-0 over Harris-Lake Park on Thursday.

Austin Egeland pitched four innings in the win. He struck out 11 batters and gave up one hit and one walk.

Cole Budach pitched one inning and struck out two batters, and gave up one hit and one walk.

At the plate, Egeland was 3-3 with an RBI and a run. Justin Frederick was 2-2 with a triple, an RBI and a run.
