A 13-run first-inning for sixth-ranked Estherville Lincoln Central showed fans it would be a short night against a Storm Lake squad with just one victory this season.

Helped by a couple errors, the Tornadoes came up with a couple hits also in the third inning, but the Midgets held for a 16-4, three-inning victory on Thursday.

ELC sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning.

Kristen King started the offensive barrage by reaching first base on a dropped third strike. Macy Dahl drew a walk and Emily Kirchner singled to load the bases.

Kendall Bosch delivered a two-run single and Christina Tendal brought Kirchner home with another single.

The Tornadoes finally got a couple outs as Taylor Lago popped up to second base and the visitors got a force out at third base when Sadie Winter hit a ball that direction.

But ELC wasn't done as Ashton Reisner singled to load the bases.

A single by Kellie Christensen scored two runs and a double by King brought in two more runs.

King scored as Dahl reached on an error and Dahl scored on a single by Kirchner.

Bosch was then hit by a pitch. Tendal followed with her second-RBI single. A triple by Lago scored two runs. Winter followed with an RBI triple.

The inning ended when Reisner popped up to the shortstop.

Storm Lake threatened to score a pair of runs in the second inning. But with one out and runners at second and third, Reisner got out of the inning by striking out the next two batters.

ELC added three runs in the bottom of the second. Christensen led off the inning with a single and Sarah Schacherer drew a walk. A double steal put runners in scoring position for Dahl, who delivered a single to bring home both.

After a one-out walk to Bosch and a single by Tendal, Dahl scored when Lago grounded out to the pitcher.

Reisner earned the victory. She struck out three batters, walked two and gave up four hits.

ELC coach Megan Anderson replaced all five seniors on the field with substitutes with two outs in the top of the third inning. Seniors thanked for their efforts on Senior Night were Bosch, Christensen, Reisner, Tendal and Winter.

Liz Brashear closed out the game. She faced two batters and struck out one.

At the plate, Tendal was 3-3 with two RBIs. Christensen was 2-2 with two RBIs. Kirchner was 2-3. Lago was 1-3 with three RBIs. King and Dahl each went 1-2 with two RBIs. Winter was 1-3 with an RBI. Bosch was 1-1 and Reisner was 1-2.
