HUMBOLDT - The North Union Baseball Team built an early lead against Humboldt and held on for a 6-4 victory on Tuesday.
The Warriors started the game with a 3-0 lead.
Brett Deitering led off with a single and Sawyer Doocy and Brett Thackery each drew a one-out walk. Garrett Johnson hit a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield. Thackery then scored on a wild pitch.
North Union added two more runs in the second inning as No. 9 batter Jack Adams singled and Deitering drew a walk.
After a sacrifice bunt by Evan Hagebock, Doocy hit a double as North Union took a 5-0 lead.
Humboldt finally got on the board in the bottom of the second and outscored the Warriors 2-1 in the third.
But North Union's defense settled down and gave up just one more run the final four innings.
Cody Runksmeier picked up the win. In 5 2/3 innings, he gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Doocy closed out the game as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings. He faced six batters, struck out one, gave up one hit and walked one.
North Union finished with nine hits. Deitering was 2-4. Johnson was 1-4 with two RBIs and Doocy was 1-3 with two RBIs. Alex Deitering was 2-3. Hagebock was 1-3 with an RBI. Runksmeier was 1-4 and Adams was 1-2.
