Council appoints new city clerk

Burton to begin her duties July 16

The Estherville City Council has found a replacement for long-time city clerk and finance director Vaughn Brua, who officially retired as of Friday,

At its regular meeting Monday, council appointed Beth Burton to take over the position.

According to city administrator Penny Clayton, Burton has been a long-time assistant to Iowa lakes Community College vice president of administration Bob L'Heureux.

Burton will begin her duties July 16.

In a related matter, the council approved a revision of authorized signers on city accounts to include Burton.

In other business, council approved a new commercial building for 1700 Central Avenue for Dollar General. Dollar General plans to build a new store at the location.

Council authorized the final payment of $16,184.15 for the Pavilion project in Thoreson Park. Total project cost was $76,600.78.
