BANCROFT North Union's Brett Thackery threw a three-hit shut out against Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer as the Warriors defeated the Indians 9-0 on Tuesday.
Thackery struck out eight batters and walked two in the complete game victory.
Offensively, North Union finished with 10 hits and started with a four-run salvo in the first inning.
Brett Deitering drew a leadoff walk, stole second and third base and scored on a single by Sawyer Doocy. A double by Thackery put runners on second and third with Doocy scoring on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Johnson.
Cody Runksmeier and Alex Deitering each drew a walk to load the bases. One run scored on an infield single by Zack Hurlburt. Jake Adams drew a walk to bring home the fourth run before the visitors finally got out of the inning.
North Union added three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Thackery helped his cause by going 3-4 with three doubles and an RBI.
Johnson was 1-3. Adams also finished with two RBIs.
Doocy and Alex Deitering each were 1-3 with an RBI. Runksmeier was 1-3 also.
North Union (24-6 overall) wraps up the regular season today against Manson-Northwest Webster in Manson.
The Warriors have a first-round bye in Class 2A postseason play and will play the winner of Estherville Lincoln Central and Emmetsburg at 7 p.m., Tuesday in Emmetsburg.
