MANSON - The North Union Baseball Team wrapped up its regular season Thursday with an 8-3 win over Manson-Northwest Webster.
Sawyer Doocy pitched five innings in the victory. He gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
Zach Hurlburt closed out the game. He faced nine batters, struck out one and gave up one hit.
North Union started the game with Brett Deitering reaching first on a dropped third strike. Evan Hagebock reached on an error by the first baseman as Deitering went to third. An error by the catcher allowed Deitering to score.
After Manson tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second, North Union came back with three runs in the top of the third.
With two outs, Hagebock was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Doocy reached on an error as Hagebock scored. Brett Thackery was then hit by a pitch and two runs scored on a double by Garrett Johnson.
The Cougars had three of their four hits in the third inning as they came back with two runs to cut the deficit to 4-3. However, the hosts didn't have another base runner until the seventh inning.
Meanwhile the Warriors added four insurance runs.
Johnson finished 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Hagebock was 1-4 with an RBI, Jake Adams was 1-3 with two RBIs and Alex Deitering was 1-4.
North Union starts
North Union (25-6 overall) opens postseason play on Tuesday, July 10 in Emmetsburg. The Warriors will play the winner of Saturday's game between Estherville Lincoln Central and Emmetsburg.
