STORM LAKE - Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's and Newell-Fonda's Class 1A district game didn't resemble the teams' meeting earlier this season.
The Knights won that contest in a relatively low-scoring game, 5-3.
On Tuesday, the Mustangs came away with a 13-7 victory to advance to the next round.
Newell-Fonda went to work in the first inning with three consecutive singles off GT/RA starter Tyler Dalen. The Mustangs brought home another run on a fielder's choice while the Knights got their first out. A wild pitch allowed a third run to score.
GT/Ra came right back in the top of the first.
Dalen drew a walk, stole second and went to third when the pickoff attempt went into centerfield. Logan Flaherty drew a walk and stole second. Blaze Alesch then delivered a two-run single and scored when Quinn Parker hit a one-out double to tie the game at 3-3.
But Newell-Fonda returned the favor in the top of the third with three singles followed by a pair of walks as the Mustangs scored three runs again.
Dalen settled down in the third inning as he struck out the side, but Newell-Fonda went back to work with two outs in the fourth.
The Mustangs took advantage of a couple of Knight errors and a single to plate two more runs and lead 8-3.
GT/RA made a furious comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Kyle Dalen led off the winning with a single, but the Mustangs turned a double play when Ethan Peterson hit a grounder straight to the first baseman, who threw to second to get Dalen.
Tyler Dalen and Flaherty then drew consecutive walks and Alesch came up with an RBI single. Mitch Girres was then hit by a pitch as the Knights loaded the bases. Parker delivered a double for the second time in the contest, this time clearing the bases and cutting the deficit to 8-7.
But again the Knights couldn't hold serve in the top of the fifth inning.
The Mustangs came up with three hits combined with a Knight error and a sacrifice fly to plate five runs in the inning.
GT/RA didn't come up with a base runner the final three innings.
Tyler Dalen took the loss as he gave up 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Alesch closed out the game, giving up three hits with four strikeouts, one walk and a hit batter.
At the plate, Parker was 2-3 with four RBIs. Alesch was 2-4 with three RBIs. Kyle Dalen was 1-3 and Mike Girres was 1-4.
GT/RA finishes the season with a 16-8 record.
The Knights bid farewell to seniors Tyler Dalen, Quinn Parker and Mitch Girres.
