For the first time in over 26 years, Estherville has a new city clerk/finance director.
At Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Ken Billings swore in Elizabeth Burton to the position.
Vaughn Brua retired from the post last month.

In other business, council took several actions concerning a curb and gutter project, which consists portions of South Fifth Street from Central Avenue to First Avenue North and from that intersection east to South Eighth Street.
Council approved the resolution of necessity and went on to approve the plans and specifications for the project.
Finally, council accepted a bid from Randy Helmers Construction of Estherville of $170,329.50 for the project. Randy Helmers Construction submitted the lone bid, which was slightly more than the engineer's estimate of $169,882.50.
Also Monday, council approved the mayor's appointment of Julie Clark to fill a vacancy on the Estherville Cable Commission.
Council approved a request from the Estherville Fire Department to close off the 100 block of North Seventh Street from 6:30-9:30 p.m. this evening to test training equipment.
Council set Monday, Aug. 6 as the date for a public hearing on the 2012 Street Resurfacing Project, which entails the same streets as the curb and gutter project-South Fifth Street and First Avenue South.
