The Estherville Public Library staff took a cue from nature for Family Fun and Awards Night Thursday night at the Emmet County Nature Center.
There was a good turnout for hotdogs, chips and lemonade with lake-cooled temperatures offering a bit of a respite from the heat.
And, thanks to a lot of generous donations from organizations, there were plenty of prizes for kids who already found a rewarding summer with all the books they read.
Paula Spoo, children's librarian, said 191 kids had signed up for this year's summer reading program - Dream Big - Read. They pledged to read 4,232 books and read 2,415 for 99,305 pages over the six-week summer reading program.
A special award went to Natalie Lausen for the naming contest.
