EMMETSBURG - Nearly 160 students will graduate at the end of the summer term at Iowa Lakes Community College later this week.
Commencement exercises are Friday, July 27, with the ceremony starting at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Emmetsburg Campus.
Keynote speaker this year is Sun Mudiavita, an Iowa Lakes student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, pursuing an associate of arts degree.
Attendees will be welcomed by college president Valerie Newhouse; Jan Lund, president of the board of trustees, will acknowledge the trustees; Mark Gruwell, executive dean of instruction and development, will lead the special recognition section, and professor Ann Wimmer will present Presidential Scholars Awards.
A Commendable Service Award will be presented by the student senate; Gruwell will return to the podium to offer the Presentation of the Candidates; Pat Kibbie, vice president of the board of trustees will confer the degrees and diplomas, and Wimmer and Laure Egland, associate professor, will present the roll call of candidates. President Newhouse will present the diplomas.
Following the ceremony, everyone is cordially invited to attend a reception in honor of the graduates.
