Estherville business Valley Contracting has given the Estherville Sweet Corn Days committee an early Christmas present: Roo-guards.
In the past, the committee for the annual event has had to borrow and beg to find the 60-65 Roo-guards needed to section off areas of Estherville streets to create the Beer Garden and corn serving areas during Sweet Corn Days.
But this year, Eric Anderson of Valley Contracting came to the rescue and donated 49 Roo-guards for the Sweet Corn Days Committee to have. Valued at over $11,000 the donation is a huge gift to the event, ensuring the Sweet Corn Days Committee they only needed to purchase an additional 15 in order to get the number needed to use each year. In addition, Perkins Transport shipped the Roo-guards to Estherville for just fuel costs.
"We are so thankful to Eric and Patt Anderson and to Perkins Transport for their generosity and showing such great community spirit in helping us," said Stephanie Neppl, executive director of the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce.
On Thursday, the Sweet Corn Days Committee and a few helpful volunteers unloaded all the Roo-guards in anticipation for next week's event. They'll be set up next Friday morning to be ready for Friday and Saturday's Sweet Corn Days events.
The 15th Estherville Sweet Corn Days will be held Aug. 2-5 in Estherville. For more information on this and other events in the Estherville area, please visit www.estherville.org.
