MILFORD - A Graettinger man was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a crossover-SUV late Tuesday morning, two miles east of Milford. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened around 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Road A-34 and 240th Avenue.
Authorities say a 1997 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle driven by Mitchell Jesperson, 29, of Graettinger was westbound on A-34 and a 2011 Chevy Equinox being driven by Susan Klassen of Arnolds Park was eastbound and attempting to make a left turn onto 240th Avenue. Klassen turned into the path of the westbound motorcycle at which time the motorcycle collided with Klassen's vehicle.
Jesperson was pronounced dead at the scene. Klassen was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with minor injuries.
Damage to the Equinox was estimated at $20,000. The motorcycle was totaled.
Authorities say the accident remains under investigation.
The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Milford, Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments, Iowa State Patrol. Milford Fire and Rescue and Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
