Jerry Wilson, tan Art teacher for grades 5-12 at Estherville Lincoln Central Schools along with his daughter Mackenzie Wilson ,who will be a senior at ELC this fall, are the Artist(s) of the month for August at the NorthStar Bank.

They each have many different types of artwork on displayed including water colors, pen and ink drawings, pencil drawings, pastels and many others.

Jerry has two pieces of work being displayed that he used for T-shirt designs; one for his South West Minnesota State Masters Program and the other for his National Guard deployment.

Besides the Northstar Bank, Jerry has also had his work displayed other places including Art in the Park.

Mackenzie has had her work displayed at school and 4-H. Also her fifth-grade pastel painting of her family's barn, which was destroyed a year later in a storm, was selected to go to the Iowa State Fair.

Mackenzie obviously got into art through her father but how did Jerry get into it?

"I have always dabbled in the arts, even as a child," Jerry said. He went to school and shortly majored in graphic art but it did not take long for him to switch back to art education. He obtained his Bachelor of Science Education in art from Central Missouri State and after a few different teaching jobs, ended up at ELC.

Jerry's favorite type of art is painting, especially with water colors but he also enjoys ceramics and drawing. He said he enjoys teaching because of the appreciation needed for the broad range of art.

He looked up to his coaches and teachers and wanted to be the one to look up to, so he became a teacher and a coach.

However, he gave up coaching to spend more time with his family; his wife, Katherine; Jessica; 11, Savannah, 13, Benjamin, 15 Mackenzie, 17.

Other than art, Jerry enjoys traveling with his family; they have a time-share in Florida they visit once a year; walking and hiking with his family when he can get them to go; he enjoys reading and like many others in Iowa, he enjoys the Hawkeyes.

The Wilsons' artwork will be on display at the Northstar Bank throughout the month of August.
