Education: Simpson College, undergraduate; Iowa State University, graduate.

Previous teaching experience: 17 years, 4 years at Pocahontas and 13 years a Okoboji Community Schools.

Position at ELC: Elementary Principal.

What do you like best about working with students? "I love the energy that young kids have as well as their passion for learning and playing."

What do you like about Estherville thus far? "The staff and community have been awesome and have really made me feel welcomed."

Family: Wife, Jennifer; Son, Noah (15); Daughter, Haley (13).

Name: Jenica Arends.

Hometown: Wray, Colo.

Education: Iowa Lakes Community College, AA Degree; Buena Vista University, Elementary Education/ K-8 Social Studies, K-8 Reading Endorsement.

Previous teaching experience: Aide for four years.

Position at ELC: 3-8 grade technology.

What do you like best about working with students? Their love of learning and getting to know each student.

What do you like about Estherville thus far? "Over the last eight years I have been welcomed into the community. Estherville really supports their kids, businesses, schools and each other."

Family: Husband: Ryan Arends, Sons: Blake, 3 1/2 and Luke, 2.

Fun Fact: Traveled to South America for two months.

Name: Alicia Haack.

Hometown: Storm Lake.

Education: Buena Vista University, Elementary Education Degree, English as a second language endorsement, K-12; reading endorsement, K-8.

Previous teaching experience: Head Start, Early childhood, Preschool teacher.

Position at ELC: English as a Second Language Educator, 5-12 grades.

What do you like best about working with students? "I like working with students and experiencing their moment of greatness when they discover and learn something new and the look in their eyes when they achieve."

What do you like about Estherville thus far? "I live the immediate family atmosphere that Estherville provides with each person I meet."

Family: "I have three children and a yellow lab that I love and adore."

Fun Fact: "I climbed Pinnacle Mountain at Table Rock State Park in South Carolina this summer. I love to travel and be with my family."

Name: Michelle Frideres.

Hometown: Estherville.

Education: Buena Vista University, Business Management, 2004; Business Education, 2011.

Previous teaching experience: Clay Central Everly 2011-2012, Business Education.

Position at ELC: HS Business.

What do you like best about working with students? The ability to learn about them on all levels- not just academically. Watching them succeed after school!

What do you like about Estherville thus far? Welcoming community.

Family: Husband, Justin; Son, Grady (2); Daughter, Jaycie (1).

Fun Fact: "I have always loved all sports- but got into hunting when I met my husband. I got my first deer bow hunting in 2006!"

Name: Tammy Flynn.

Hometown: Pocahontas- lived there for 42 years.

Education: Buena Vista University, MS in Elementary; Drake University, Masters in Counseling.

Previous teaching experience: Palmer Comm. School- 4&5th grade combination teacher, Pocahontas Catholic School- 2nd grade teacher, Pocahontas Comm. School- 20 years elementary counselor.

Position at ELC: Middle School Counselor.

What do you like best about working with students? "I enjoy really getting to know them and sharing all the good things in their life as well as the problems they have."

What do you like about Estherville thus far? "I was a substitute teacher here in Estherville for three years. The administrative support at the school has been awesome."

Family: Husband: Tom Flynn, Son: Todd Flynn- lives in Des Moines, two grandsons: ages 13&16.

Fun Fact: "We recently sold our home on East Okoboji and purchased a condo in the harbor on West Okoboji. I love to shop."

Name: Sonja Hughes.

Hometown: Ringsted.

Education: Mankato State University, Elementary Early Childhood and Kindergarten; Black Hills State University, Special Education K-12.

Previous teaching experience: A-R MS/HS Special Education and the Boys and Girls Home, Graettinger.

Position at ELC: HS Special Education.

What do you like best about working with students? Getting to know them and help them further their knowledge.

What do you like about Estherville thus far? Getting to meet new people.

Family: Fiance, Tim Sidles who has two children...and one due in November!

Name: Kelly Thelen.

Hometown: Spirit Lake.

Education: Buena Vista University.

Previous teaching experience: Long term substitute at Okoboji for 4th grade.

Position at ELC: First grade classroom teacher.

What do you like best about working with students? Helping the students become their own personal best!

What do you like about Estherville thus far? The small town charm and srtong sense of community. Sweet Corn Days was a blast!

Family: Husband Matt Thelen, a business owner in Okoboji

Fun Fact: "I worked as a camp counselor and preschool teacher for the Department of Defense in Germany, England, Key West and Hawaii!"

Name: Leslie Reiter.

Hometown: Estherville.

Education: Buena Vista University, 8th grade reading endorsement and early childhood endorsement; SMSU, Masters in education leadership.

Previous teaching experience: ETS Advisor for Iowa Lakes Community College.

Position at ELC: 8th grade science.

What do you like best about working with students? Watching the excitement when they learn something new.

What do you like about Estherville thus far? "I have lived in Estherville and went to school here. I feel it is a great school system and community to raise children."

Family: Daughter- Rachel attending SDSU, pre pharmacy; Son- Grant attending ELC, 10th grade.

Fun Fact: "I love to read, motorcycle ride, and spend time with my family."

Name: Tara Ries.

Hometown: Armstrong.

Education: University of Iowa, BA Elementary Education.

Previous teaching experience: Preschool teacher, COMO Early Learning Center in Minneapolis.

Position at ELC: 2nd Grade teacher.

What do you like best about working with students? "I love to see their excitement as they learn new things."

What do you like about Estherville thus far? The staff is very welcoming and everyone is excited to start the new school year!

Family: Husband, Landon Ries.

Fun Fact: "I have a dog named Sullivan (Westie); if you read Fergus, by David Shannon, you'll get a great representation."
