ELCAR shows improvement

OKOBOJI - With several new faces in the lineup, the ELCAR cross country teams could be expected to show improvement and did so at the Spirit Lake Invitational on Tuesday.

The ELCAR girls finished sixth with 135 points while the boys finished eighth with 199 points at the meet held at Brooks Golf Course in Okoboji.

"Both the girls and boys need to work on starting out faster," said coach Tina Burton. "We try to play catch-up-we need to fix that.

"Both teams improved from last meet," she added.

MOC-Floyd Valley won the girls meet with 60 points followed by Unity Christian with 66, Spencer with 76, Western Christian with 105, Spirit Lake with 132, ELCAR, Sheldon with 150, Storm Lake with 227 and Cherokee with 255.

Macy Dahl led ELCAR with a 12th-place finish in 16 minutes, 38 seconds. Heather Natterstad finished 14th in 17:02 while Brianna Enerson was 26th in 17:36, Rachel Bates was 39th in 18:15 and Paige Taylor was 44th in 18:57.

Also running, Coral Franklin finished 49th in 19:25 and Hannah Newton placed 52nd in 20:19.

In the boys' race, Lee Christensen paced the team with a 22nd place finish in 18:16. Nic Peters was 36th in 19:13 while Martin Christensen placed 43rd in 19:46, Adam Reiter was 48th in 20:23 and Kelly Clabaugh placed 50th in 20:58.

"Both Macy and Lee, our front runners, had gutsy races and were very aggressive," said Burton.

In the junior varsity girls' race, ELCAR finished with 197 points. Unity Christian won with 38 points followed by MOC-Floyd Valley with 54, Sheldon with 75, Spencer with 124 and Western Christian with 197.

Colleen Humble led the ELCAR JV with a 25th place finish in 20:04; Claire Christensen placed 32nd in 20:18, Tayler Karels placed 34th in 20:21; Kristain Peterson placed 52nd in 22:05 and Emily Jorgenson finished 54th in 22:22.

Al running, Maddie More placed 65th in 24:00 followed by Emilee Olson in 66th in 24:25, and Emily Slaughter in 68th in 24:36.

ECLAR hosts its meet next Tuesday at the Estherville Golf Course.
