Norris sets course record as Spirit Lake wins at home

OKOBOJI - The Spirit Lake boys cross country team won its home cross-country meet with four runners finishing in the top 10.

The Indians scored 54 points led by individual champion Will Norris, who set a course record in 15 minutes, 28 seconds.

Tanner Goetsch placed fifth in 17:13 while Kyle Anderson placed sixth in 17:16 and Mark Norland placed 10th in 17:39.

Rounding out the team score was Alec Harrington, who placed 32nd in 19:04.

Also, Kyle Kuemper placed 35th in 19:08 and CJ Kent placed 44th in 19:49.

Spencer finished second with 80 points followed by Storm Lake with 84, Western Christian with 87, MOC-Floyd Valley with 119, Unity Christian with 136, Sheldon with 152, ELCAR with 99. Cherokee and Laurens-Marathon also had runners at the meet.

In the girls' race, Spirit Lake finished fifth with 132 points.

Two Indians placed in the top 10-Mariah Willis was third in 15:46 while Dondi Schmidt placed fifth in 15:50.

Rounding out the team scoring were Ashley Brooks in 36th place in 18:12; Meghan Wickham in 40th in 18:32 and Rebekah Olson in 48th in 19:25.

Also running were Jenna McCoy, who placed 50th in 19:45 while Megan O'Brian placed 51st in 20:19.

Spirit Lake is at the ELCAR meet in Estherville next Tuesday.
