Miss Kossuth-Winnebago youth to be crowned today

Annual scholarship program competition takes place in Burt

BURT - The Miss Kossuth-Winnebago Scholarship Program will crown its 2012 titleholders today in Burt at the activity complex. Admission is $5 at the door. New this year will be a photogenic contest and Artistry Skincare & Cosmetics, an official sponsor of the Miss America Scholarship Program, will have a local representative at the pageant.

Miss Kossuth-Winnebago

Area ladies competing for the title of Miss Kossuth-Winnebago are: Chelsey Adams, Brittany Bortvit, Hailey Huey and Heidi Nyhus.

Chelsey Adams of Thompson is the 18-year-old daughter of Nikki Smith and Joey Smith and Chris and Diana Adams. She is a graduate of North Iowa Community Schools.

Brittany Bortvit of Estherville is the 19-year-old daughter of Darryl and Sheila Bortvit. She is a sophomore at Morningside College.

Hailey Huey of Clear Lake is the 20-year-old daughter of Dustin and Shannon Huey. She is a junior at the University of Iowa.

Heidi Nyhus of Forest City is the 22-year-old daughter of Harlan and Deb Nyhus. She is a senior at Iowa State University.

Miss Kossuth-Winnebago Outstanding Teen

Miss Kossuth-Winnebago Outstanding Teen Contestants are: Katherine Harrison, Amanda Myers & Alyssa Fothergill.

Katherine Harrison is the 15-year-old daughter of Michael and Lois Harrison of Swea City. She is a sophomore at North Union High School.

Alyssa Fothergill is the 14-year-old daughter of Kurt and Lydia Fothergill of Fenton. She is going into her freshman year at North Union High School.

Amanda Myers is the 15-year-old daughter of John and Jessica Emswiler of Charter Oak and Ken Myers of Carroll. She is a sophomore at Charter Oak-Ute High School.

Jr. Miss Kossuth-Winnebago

Jr. Miss Kossuth-Winnebago contestant is Alexa Springer. Alexa is the 9-year-old daughter of Mike and Deb Springer of Graettinger. She will be in fourth grade at Graettinger-Terril.

Li'l Miss Kossuth-Winnebago

Li'l Miss Kossuth-Winnebago contestants are Janessa Ehmen, Bethany Hernandez and Atleigh Cody.

Janessa is the 8-year-old daughter of Paul and Jan Ehmen of Cylinder. She will be in the third grade at North Union Elementary School.

Bethany is the 8-year-old daughter of Juan and Marlene Hernandez of Fenton. She is in the third grade at North Union Elementary School.

Atleigh is the 8-year-old daughter of Jessie and Jamie Cody of Estherville. She is in third grade at Roosevelt Elementary.

Princess for the Day

Participating in the Princess for the Day mentoring program this year are: Leah Reinhart, Adeline Reynolds, Shelby Potratz, Amelia Fothergill and Madison McClelland.

Leah Reinhart is the 6-year-old daughter of Tom and Sarah Reinhart of Fenton.

Adeline Reynolds is the 5-year-old daughter of Todd and Elizabeth Reynolds of Bode.

Shelby Potratz is the 6-year-old daughter of Wade and Shawna Potratz of Fenton.

Amelia Fothergill is the 6-year-old daughter of Kurt and Lydia Fothergill of Fenton.

Madison McClelland is the 6-year-old daughter of Ryan and April McClelland of Waterloo.

The Miss Kossuth-Winnebago Scholarship Program is a preliminary pageant to Miss Iowa, Miss America & Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageants. The Miss America Organization is the largest provider of scholarships to young women. Contestants should live, work or attend school in Iowa and be between the ages of six and 24.
